I Don’t Want No Other / Suck This

Before the deadmau5 name filled festival posters, Joel Zimmerman made this Canadian house record with Derek Caesar as Dred and Karma. A small mouse-head graphic on its label anticipates the image that later became inseparable from his music. [1]

Release history and significance

Issued by Awesome Records in 2000, the single pairs “I Don’t Want No Other” with “Suck This.” Both tracks credit Derek Caesar and Joel Zimmerman as writers and producers. Its plain packaging belongs to an early period of Zimmerman’s work, when the record itself offered few clues to the identity he would later build. [1]

For this copy, that anonymity became part of its story. The seller described finding it among the unsold stock of a closed electronic-music shop, where it had remained unrecognized until the inventory was reorganized.

Market context

As of 13 September 2026, Discogs reported sales ranging from US$7.24 to US$1,000.00, with a median of US$14.49. Its most recent recorded sale was dated 12 April 2026. [1]

Physical Description

Black vinyl with printed labels and an early mouse-head design, housed in a plain generic sleeve. Small vinyl filaments remain attached near the centre hole. No inserts accompany the record.

Condition

The detailed accession notes describe strong VG+ condition, with glossy vinyl and clean labels, together with a minor storage warp. A recorded play test was described as crisp and low in surface noise.

Provenance

The seller said that the record came from the deadstock inventory of a closed shop specializing in late-1990s and early-2000s electronic music. It had remained in long-term retail storage rather than circulating through successive owners, and was identified during a reorganization of the stock.

Acquired through Discogs on 16 December 2025 from the seller recorded in the SOAT as bettadayz.
