Before Ruthless records reached a wider market through Macola, this locally issued 12-inch brought Eazy-E, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre together on vinyl. Its red labels belong to the earliest configuration of “The Boyz-N-The-Hood.” [1]

Release history and significance
Dr. Dre produced the record, Ice Cube received the writing credit, and Eric “Eazy-E” Wright served as executive producer. “The Boyz-N-The-Hood” shares its side with “Fat Girl”; the reverse features Eazy-E and Ron-De-Vu on “L.A. Is the Place” and “L.A. Capella.” The four tracks capture Ruthless at the beginning of its recording catalogue. [1]
This edition preceded the Macola-distributed issues. Its labels carry the early “Ruthless Attack” wording and Compton contact information, placing the record in the period when the label operated on a local, independent scale. [1]

Physical Description
Black vinyl with red Ruthless labels and black text. The early label configuration includes Compton contact information and no Macola distribution credit.
Condition
Graded NM, with full gloss and no visible marks or play wear recorded. The labels are vivid and clean, without writing, stickers or spindle marks.
Provenance
Acquired from DJ Rene Hernandez on 25 February 2026. Hernandez said he first encountered this variant through a DJ friend in the 1980s; the friend told him that Eazy-E had given him the record. Hernandez later obtained his own copy through an early online auction.
Hernandez reported that photographs of his copy were reproduced in Freddy Fresh Presents: The Rap Records, where he received a credit. He also said that he created the Discogs entry for the pressing. These accounts accompanied the sale.
