Trapped / The Lunatic
The commercial edition of 2Pac’s first solo single put his face behind bars on its picture sleeve. Released in September 1991, it brought “Trapped” and “The Lunatic” to record buyers ahead of the debut album. [1]

Release history and significance
Issued on 25 September 1991, the single contains the LP and instrumental versions of “Trapped” on side A, followed by the two versions of “The Lunatic” on side B. Pee Wee produced “Trapped”; Shock G produced the reverse. The music connects Shakur’s solo emergence with the creative circle around Digital Underground. [1]
“Trapped” sets a forceful account of restricted freedom against a beat drawing on James Brown’s “The Spank.” The commercial sleeve turns that sense of confinement into a direct visual image: a child gripping bars. Victor Hall is credited for photography and Kevin Hosmann for art direction. [1]
This copy preserves the commercial package in its sealed state. Its picture sleeve and retail catalogue number distinguish it from the separately held PR 3998 promotional copy. The two editions document different routes by which the same first single reached its audience.

Physical Description
Black vinyl in a printed picture sleeve, still sealed. The cover shows a child looking through bars, beneath the title “Trapped.” A small remainder notch, approximately one-quarter inch, is recorded at the lower-left spine.
Condition
The copy remains sealed. The sleeve is graded VG+ because of the remainder notch.
