Market Context & Historical Notes

Recorded at Sun Studio on 5–6 July 1954 and released on 19 July, That’s All Right / Blue Moon of Kentucky was the first commercial single issued under Presley’s name. “That’s All Right,” drawn from blues singer Arthur Crudup’s repertoire, and “Blue Moon of Kentucky,” from Bill Monroe’s bluegrass original, document a compressed meeting of blues and country materials that has turned this release into a foundational record in the history of rockabilly and a debut statement by the future King of Rock.

Canonical Status in ROSA

This release is recognized by the Ransom Origins of Sound Archive as the artist’s canonical debut.
