Release history and significance
Stapleton knew Mike Henderson through songwriting before he knew the rest of the band. In an early interview, he recalled that Henderson was the only member he had known when the SteelDrivers came together. Their writing partnership helped give the group its repertoire, while Richard Bailey, Tammy Rogers and Mike Fleming brought banjo, fiddle and bass to its sound. [1] [2]
Sold by the band at shows, this self-released CD predates the widely distributed Rounder debut. Its twelve tracks include “If It Hadn’t Been for Love,” “Midnight Train to Memphis,” “Drinkin’ Dark Whiskey” and “You Put the Hurt on Me.” The printed title emphasizes the live date; the familiar Station Inn title identifies the Nashville club heard in the performance.
