…Baby One More Time
Britney Spears was sixteen when “…Baby One More Time” introduced her as a recording artist. Her debut brought a young singer from Louisiana together with Stockholm’s Cheiron studio team—and she helped shape the school-set video that made the song instantly recognizable. [2] [3]

Release history and significance
Written by Max Martin and produced by Martin and Rami, the single emerged from the Cheiron sessions that launched Spears’s recording career. Jive’s 1998 campaign soon made the song an international hit, reaching number one in nineteen countries. [2]
Spears had ideas about how audiences should first see her. When an animated concept was proposed for the video, she suggested a school setting instead. Director Nigel Dick filmed the resulting classroom-to-dance-floor story at Venice High School in Los Angeles. The choice made Spears an active participant in creating the image that accompanied her debut. [3]
The US 12-inch carries five versions: the Davidson Ospina Club Mix, Davidson Ospina Chronicles Dub and LP Version on side A, with the Sharp Platinum Vocal Remix and Sharp Trade Dub on side B. These extended mixes brought the song into club programming alongside its radio and television campaign. [1]
Market context
The original Jive 12-inch combines the debut’s portrait sleeve with the club mixes from its first release campaign. Its five-track stock configuration is a distinct collecting format alongside the song’s promotional, CD and cassette editions. [1] The larger sleeve and extended remixes show how the same debut was presented to record buyers and DJs.
