Your Love Is King
Sade Adu had trained in fashion and was nervous about singing in public. Writing songs felt more natural. The road from those first hesitant performances to “Your Love Is King” ran through years of work with the band Pride—and a determination to keep her musical partners beside her. [1]

Release history and significance
Pride’s live set included a quieter, jazzier section led by Sade. Record companies noticed, but she resisted offers that would separate her from the band. When she signed to Epic, Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale and Paul Spencer Denman came with her, forming the group known as Sade. [1]
“Your Love Is King” was the band’s first single and became a British top-ten hit in 1984. Its assured sound followed a long apprenticeship: Sade had toured with Pride, often doing the driving herself, while learning to sing through her stage fright. [1]
The white-label twelve-inch places “Your Love Is King” alongside “Smooth Operator / Snake Bite” and “Love Affair With Life.” A playing-card-style sticker supplies the track information on the plain sleeve. [2]
