The Glow / The Hit
Before the mixtapes and major-label breakthrough, 50 Cent was learning how to turn his rhymes into songs. This 1997 JMJ promotional single comes from his apprenticeship with Jam Master Jay, who gave the young Queens rapper his first recording deal. [1] [2]

Release history and significance
50 Cent could already rap when he began working with Jay, but the mechanics of making a record were new to him. In an interview with Davey D, he recalled learning to count bars, shape a song and work with melody and cadence. Jay’s contribution was practical and personal: he helped a developing writer find a form for his voice. [2]
The single credits Curtis Jackson as writer and J. Mizell and R. Allen as producers. “The Glow” appears in vocal and instrumental versions; “The Hit” adds a radio edit to the same pairing. The mixes were made at 24-7 Recording Studio in Jamaica, Queens. [3]
A copy offered from Jam Master Jay’s own archive by Wax Poetics places the recordings in 1997 and attributes the absence of a full commercial release to sample-clearance problems. The promotional disc preserves music from the beginning of the relationship that helped launch 50 Cent’s recording career. [1]
