You Can’t Hide
For his first solo record, Frankie Knuckles returned to a song with roots in Philadelphia soul. “You Can’t Hide” reshaped Teddy Pendergrass’s “You Can’t Hide from Yourself” for Chicago’s house dance floors in 1986. [1] [3]

Release history and significance
The move from DJ booth to recording studio involved friends. Chip E recalled inviting Knuckles to work on his records and helping him at the mixing desk. When it came time for a Knuckles release, they chose the Gamble and Huff song associated with Teddy Pendergrass. [2]
Chip E remembered hearing a band at the Chicago club AKA and bringing its musicians into the session. Live brass and Latin percussion joined machine drums, connecting the record’s electronic foundation with the playing and arrangements of the soul records that preceded it. [2]
D.J. International issued “You Can’t Hide” with production credited to Chip E, Frankie Knuckles and Joe Smooth. Knuckles and Smooth are credited for mixing. Club, radio and house versions, together with “House Beats,” gave DJs several ways into the song. [3]
