We Rap More Mellow
The Furious Five reached vinyl under an unfamiliar name. “We Rap More Mellow,” credited to the Younger Generation, brought Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, Cowboy, Scorpio and Rahiem into the studio in 1979, carrying the teamwork of Bronx party routines onto a twelve-inch single. [1]

Release history and significance
For Kidd Creole, the roots of that teamwork were close to home. His sister Linda wrote poetry, and he and his brother Melle Mel began writing rhymes together. Trading words and finishing phrases grew naturally from that shared practice. Cowboy brought another strength: the confidence to call out to an audience and get a response. [2]
Creole later explained that producer Terry Lewis chose the Younger Generation name because he did not think the group’s own name would sell. The experience was brief; they went on to record “Superrappin’” with Bobby Robinson for Enjoy. The Museum of Pop Culture identifies “We Rap More Mellow” as the five MCs’ first recorded song. [1] [2]
The Brass single offers three lengths of the same performance: a 9:35 Maxi Version on the first side, and a 3:34 Micro Version and 6:08 Mini Version on the reverse. Lewis receives the printed production, arrangement and writing credits. [3]
