Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide

Guns N’ Roses’ first EP gave their early followers a record to carry home while Appetite for Destruction was still taking shape. Its four songs delivered the band’s club repertoire with an added roar of crowd noise—even though the performances were recorded in a studio. [1]

Release history and significance

Steven Adler recalled that Geffen’s Tom Zutaut proposed an EP under the band’s own Uzi Suicide name, financed by Geffen. Photographer and friend Marc Canter remembered the sessions at Pasha Studios as part of an arrangement with producer Spencer Proffer, who was being considered for the album. [2]

The record appeared in December 1986. “Reckless Life” and “Move to the City” sat alongside covers of Rose Tattoo’s “Nice Boys” and Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin,” connecting the new band to music already central to its live sets. Crowd sound added to the studio performances supplied the atmosphere promised by the title. [1]

Zutaut remembered the EP bringing early attention in Britain. Its four tracks later formed the electric half of G N’ R Lies in 1988, making the debut material widely available after Appetite’s breakthrough. [2]
