Lauryn Hill was still a teenager when “Boof Baf” brought her onto record with Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. The sleeve names them Fugees (Tranzlator Crew), preserving an early stage of the group that would make her internationally known. [1]

Release history and significance
Growing up in South Orange, New Jersey, Hill spent hours listening to soul records and pursued singing and acting while still at school. With Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean, she performed around New York and helped write the group’s material while they sent demos to record companies. [2]
Columbia released “Boof Baf” in 1993, before the Fugees’ 1994 debut album Blunted on Reality. The five-track 12-inch contains the LP version, Refugee Doodle remix and its instrumental, “Living Like There Ain’t No Tomorrow,” and the extended Butcher mix. Production credits name Khalis Bayyan, Pras and Wyclef; Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo remixed the extended version. [1]
Hill was also appearing in Sister Act 2 during this early period. The Fugees’ first album brought limited success, but The Score in 1996 reached a much wider audience. Her 1998 solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, won five Grammys, including Album of the Year, and later entered the National Recording Registry. This single precedes both breakthroughs. On this edition’s B-side label, the Joe Nicolo remix credit is placed against “Living Like There Ain’t No Tomorrow”; the release listing identifies it with the extended Butcher mix of “Boof Baf.” [1]
Condition
The single remains factory sealed. The sleeve is graded Near Mint, with minor corner handling and no ring wear or remainder marks recorded.
