Release history and significance
Garrix traced his ambition to watching Tiësto perform at the 2004 Olympics. He began producing in his bedroom, using headphones late at night and a modest pair of speakers during the day. He liked software that let him try an idea quickly and decide whether to finish it. [3]
Spinnin’ presented “Keygen” as his first official release in its 2012 promotion. Its melodic, instrumental club arrangement belongs to the period before his breakthrough with “Animals” in 2013. [1]
The Scandinavian CD-R places “Keygen (Original Mix)” third, after two versions of Cryogenix’s “Fire Like This” and before “Kinky Denise” by Quintino & MOTi. It preserves the practical context in which DJs encountered the emerging producer alongside other current dance releases. [2]
